Volunteer Day

MLK365 Program                                      Chosen 300 Ministries

Please join MLK365 and Chosen 300 on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 4:30 pm to help serve meals to homeless individuals.

Chosen 300 Ministries seeks to bring people of different groups together, helping them to realize that despite our differences in race, ethnic group, denomination, social class, economic classes, or faiths, we can unify ourselves for the common good.

Chosen 300 has been a continued partner of MLK365/Global Citizen and has engaged volunteers throughout the year as part of the MLK365 Program and on the Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service.

Volunteers are needed to assist with Chosen's daily homeless meal service by helping prepare and serve food and assist with meal set up and break down.

Volunteers are asked to wear comfortable clothing and footwear as the project will require a lot of standing and walking around. Chosen 300 Staff will be onsite to lead volunteers; child volunteers ages 12 - 18 are welcome to participate with parent supervision.

PLEASE NOTE: Christian worship is provided for homeless guests prior to the meal service to provide an avenue of hope. However, anyone of any faith is welcome to serve!

Chosen 300 is easily accessible via SEPTA; please visit www.septa.org for directions via public transportation. On-street parking is available in the neighborhood surrounding the center.

You may RSVP to volunteer through this invitation by clicking the "REGISTER" button. If you have questions, please contact MLK365 Staff at (215) 665-2655 or mlk365@globalcitizen.us.com.

Global Citizen & MLK365

Global Citizen is non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting civic engagement, community volunteering, civic responsibility and sustained active citizenship among diverse groups, particularly young people.

Our issues of focus include poverty, homelessness, at-risk youth, education, public health, digital inclusion, energy and the environment.  Global Citizen is a weaver of community webs, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds.  We work to build diverse partnerships through volunteer service, thus realizing how much more we have in common than our differences.

Global Citizen was founded by Todd Bernstein, who helped Pennsylvania U.S. Senator Harris Wofford and Atlanta Congressman John Lewis create the National Martin Luther King Day of Service in 1994.  Bernstein started the first local King Day of Service in Philadelphia in 1996.

MLK365 is a year-round program that promotes sustainable civic engagement and volunteer opportunities.

The goal of MLK365 is to ensure that Dr. King's legacy and principles are embraced throughout the entire year.  The initiative emphasizes Dr. King's legacy of nonviolence, social justice, equality and excellence.

MLK365 serves as a year-round clearing house for continuing service opportunities, as well as supporting and designing volunteer programs for its partners.
